Spanish Basketball's Bid For 2018 Women's Tournament Gets Government Backing

Spain is "a women's basketball power, but perhaps lacks international recognition," according to EL PERIODICO. Because of this, the Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB) "has taken a step forward to bid to host the 2018 World Championship for Women, a candidacy that has the support of the Spanish government." Spain's Education, Culture & Sports Minister José Ignacio Wert said, "We are going to begin to work to bring the event to Spain, and in this effort, you will not be lacking our support. It seems like the minimum recognition for what Spanish women's basketball has accomplished." Amaya Valdemoro said, "The FEB is a model to follow for all organizations, not only for athletic success, but also for women battling to improve the futures of players after their playing careers" (EL PERIODICO, 11/6).
