Event Notes: Inaugural Auckland NRL Nines Tournament With Strong Ticket Sales

Organizers predict Eden Park "will be at near capacity" for the inaugural Auckland's National Rugby League Nines tournament "judging by current ticket sales." Event promoter David Higgins said that two-day ticket sales for the Feb.15-16 tournament "were sitting at around 25,000," generating more than NZ$2M ($1.65M) in revenue (NEW ZEALAND HERALD, 10/29). ... Organizers said that the Honda LPGA Thailand "will give more chances to local stars to play at its eighth edition next year." Thailand's premier women's golf tournament "will be the third event of the 2014 LPGA Tour season and held at Siam Country Club in Pattaya from Feb 20-23." Honda Automobile (Thailand) Co., the main sponsor of the event, has contributed 1M baht ($32,200) to the Thailand Ladies Golf Association "to support its development programme to create young players" (BANGKOK POST, 10/29). ... South Africa's Premier Soccer League "continued to shuffle fixtures around" on Monday, creating an even "bigger backlog by announcing that Sunday's Telkom Knockout semifinal match between Kaizer Chiefs and Platinum Stars had been moved" (SOWETAN LIVE, 10/29).
