DOSB Demands Additional $52M From German Interior Ministry To Support Top Sports
The German Olympic Sports Association (DOSB) said that "it needs more money in order to win medals at the 2016 Rio Games," according to SPIEGEL ONLINE. The DOSB reportedly needs an additional €38M ($52M) annually. It "will allegedly submit a corresponding claim to the German Interior Ministry." DOSB General Secretary Michael Vesper said, "We will see after the coalition negotiations who will take responsibility for sports in the future and present the sports budget request to the new government and parliament." This year, the German Interior Ministry supported sports with €130M. The DOSB would like to see its budget increased to €170M ($232M), which equals a 30% increase. The DOSB said that the reason for the increased budget request "is the growing int'l competition and the demand by the government of the sports federations to be one of the top nations at Olympic Games" (SPIEGEL ONLINE, 10/20).
