League Championship Reading Completes Deal To Open New Training Ground In Wokingham
League Championship Reading FC has "agreed a deal to build a new training ground" in Wokingham, outside London, according to Charles Watts of the READING POST. Royals "exchanged contracts with the Royal Merchant Navy School Foundation on Friday to buy a 120-acre site at Bearwood Estate." The new training ground, which will house both the first team and the Academy, "will include 15 pitches as well as purpose built indoor facilities." Reading’s current training facility is at Hogwood Park, Arborfield, where they have been since '04. But with the club’s academy being awarded an Elite Player Performance Plan Category One rating, a move to a bigger facility "was key" (READING POST, 10/16). The BBC reported a full planning request "will be submitted to Wokingham Borough Council in the near future." The sale "will be finalised on receipt of planning permission" (BBC, 10/16).
