Adidas has appointed ROLAND AUSCHEL to the exec board of adidas AG, effective Oct. 1. Auschel, currently chief sales officer of multichannel markets, will assume responsibility for global sales on a board level. Auschel joined the adidas Group in Oct. '89 as strategic planner (adidas). ... Belgium football side Club Bruges has sacked coach JUAN CARLOS GARRIDO "after 10 months in charge" and is already in talks with a potential successor, former Belgium goalkeeper MICHAEL PREUD'HOMME. Assistant coaches PHILIPPE CLEMENT and STEPHAN VAN DER HEYDEN "will take charge until a permanent replacement is named" (REUTERS, 9/19). ... Nippon Professional Baseball Commissioner RYOZO KATO "announced Thursday his resignation to take the fall for the uproar over the secretly altered baseball." The 72-year-old, who was elected to a third two-year term in July '12, said that "he will quit after the regular season, which ends Oct. 6, but no later than Oct. 25." Kato said, "I caused a lot of problems over the ball, and that was a huge reason for my decision" (KYODO, 9/19). ... Scottish Rugby has appointed Scotland’s Solicitor General LESLEY THOMSON to its board, "making her the first woman ever to sit on the board." Thomson "is also a former committee member at Melrose Rugby Club and she joins fellow new recruit," Finance Dir ANDREW HEALY, on the board (RUNNING RUGBY, 9/18). ... Int'l Netball Federation CEO URVASI NAIDOO has resigned and will be leaving at the end of the month. The INF will be advertising for a new CEO in the forthcoming months but in the interim CLARE BRIEGAL will return to take up the reins (INF).
