Malaysian Sports Minister: Class 1 Velodrome To Be Constructed In Nilai, Not Kuala Lumpur

Malaysian Youth & Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin has announced that "the only Class 1 velodrome in the country will be built in Nilai and not Kuala Lumpur," according to Shamshul Fitri of of THE STAR. Khairy said that "the ministry has decided to continue with the proposal" of building the RM80M ($24M) indoor velodrome in Nilai, as mooted by the PM last year in the '13 budget. Khairy said, "There will be only one world-class velodrome and it will be in Nilai. There is no need for two world-class velodromes to be built." The decision of where the world-class velodrome should be built "became a subject of debate in recent times after Kuala Lumpur City Hall was reported planning to build one in Cheras to replace the old velodrome" (THE STAR, 9/5).
