Football Notes: EPL Side Crystal Palace Manager Holloway To Serve Two-Match Ban

EPL side Crystal Palace Manager Ian Holloway "will serve a two-match touchline ban" after the FA confirmed he would not appeal the sanctions handed out following the Eagles' 1-0 defeat to Tottenham (PA, 9/4). ... Kuala Lumpur's Hafizi Rosli "has made history for the wrong reasons" -- by being the first player to be charged with unsporting behavior by the FA of Malaysia's disciplinary committee. The disciplinary committee Wednesday "banned him for six months" and fined him RM 2,000 ($600) (THE STAR, 9/4). ... Thai police said that "a high-profile Thai Premier League football referee was shot and seriously injured in Bangkok on Wednesday morning." Police Lt. Col. Komen Suphap, deputy superintendent of Hua Mak police station, said that Thanom Borikut "was ambushed" at about 5:45am in front of a dormitory at the Sports Authority of Thailand headquarters on Ramkhamhaeng Road, Bangkok (BANGKOK POST, 9/4). ... The FA of Thailand "has scheduled its presidential election for Oct 17." FAT Acting Secretary General Ong-arj Kosinkha Tuesday said that "the date was agreed by all concerned parties," including the FAT, FIFA and Virach Charnpanich, who will challenge FAT Acting President Worawi Makudi in the election (BANGKOK POST, 9/4). ... The Czechs are planning on building a new stadium in Prague, "probably at Strahov on the site of an old stadium currently used mainly for training and rock concerts." The Czech FA "has approved a plan to bid to be one of the 13 tournament hosts of the 2020 European Championships and will be submitting an application to UEFA" prior to the Sept. 12 deadline. For the Czech bid to succeed, a new stadium will be required, "and it was built into the bidding protocol that work on any new stadium" must be started by '16 (INSIDE WORLD FOOTBALL, 9/4). ... The Barcelona-Real Madrid match scheduled for Oct. 27 "will not take place at 12pm." Multimedia group Mediapro President Jaume Roures insinuated on Tuesday morning that the match "would be played at noon, but in the end, it will not be." Last season, the Barcelona-Madrid match "was played at 4pm" (MUNDO DEPORTIVO, 9/4). ... The Mexican Football Federation's Discipline Committee opened an investigation into "violent events that took place between fans of Liga MX clubs Cruz Azul and Querétaro on Saturday." The fight "developed there because Mexico City authorities informed that they did not have enough police to make any available for security at the game" (LA AFICION, 9/3). ... During the summer transfer period, Real Madrid received €109.6M ($144.8M), but the club's spending reached €182.4M ($241M). Real Madrid spent €72.8M ($96.2M) "more on signings than it made in revenue from player trades" (MUNDO DEPORTIVO, 9/4). ... La Liga side Villarreal has made available to the public its tickets for the team's match against Real Madrid on Sept. 14. Ticket prices range from €50 ($66) to €110 ($145) and Villarreal "is facilitating two points of sale:" at the La Salera mall and the official ticket office at El Madrigal stadium (AS, 9/4).
