Glasgow 2014 has unveiled the appointment of fashion designer and celebrity stylist KERRY NIXON for next year's medal ceremonies. The Glasgow-born designer, known for her love of Scottish textiles, "will be the creative force behind the unique designs worn in the medal ceremonies and seen by millions of television viewers around the world." The medal bearer roles include "leading procession members to the podium and carrying the medals awarded to the athletes" (THE JOURNAL, 8/26). ... U.S. skater SIMON CHO "has been banned for two years" by the Int'l Skating Union after "confessing he had tampered with a Canadian rival's skates" at the '11 world team short-track championships in Poland (REUTERS, 8/27). ... Italian luxury goods company Salvatore Ferragamo will sponsor the worldwide preview of “Rush,” RON HOWARD's "action biopic" on the rivalry between F1 champions NIKI LAUDA and JAMES HUNT, to be held Monday in London. Ferragamo Creative Dir MASSIMILIANO GIORNETTI designed outfits for DAVID BRÜHL, who plays Lauda (WWD, 8/27).

NOTABLE DEATHS: Former athlete HENRY REBELLO, who had represented India in the 1948 London Olympics, "died in Gurgaon on Tuesday." He was 84 (PTI, 8/27). ... Former Japanese professional baseball player MASAYUKI DOBASHI, who won 162 games "over an illustrious career" with the Toei Flyers and managed the Yakult Swallows and Nippon Ham Fighters, "died of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis on Sunday." He was 77 (KYODO, 8/26).
