League Notes: Germany's 2nd Basketball Bundesliga Issues Wildcard To BBC Magdeburg

Germany's 2nd Basketball Bundesliga also known as Die Junge Liga, which recently stripped the Dusseldorf Baskets of its license, has issued a wildcard for the upcoming season to third-tier club BBC Magdeburg. The 2nd Basketball Bundesliga ProA will therefore consist of 16 teams during the '13-14 season (Die Junge Liga). ... The Board of Control for Cricket in India's working committee "is to meet in Kolkata on Sunday." The BCCI's annual report and balance sheet would be tabled at the meeting, but a decision to distribute the surplus of Rs. 350 crore ($68M) earned by the BCCI in the previous fiscal to its affiliated units "would have to be made by the general body" (PTI, 8/27). ... Twelve top Indian football clubs were on Tuesday given one-time exemption for the National Club License, "clearing the decks for their participation in the I-League season expected to start next month." The Club Licensing Committee First Instance Body which met in New Delhi on Tuesday "decided to give one-time exemption" (PTI, 8/27). ... Two Bangladeshi cricketers declared their innocence on Tuesday after confirming that "they were among those charged with match-fixing following a probe earlier this month by the sport's world body." Paceman Mahbubul Alam and spinner Mosharraf Hossain said that they would defend themselves against charges of fixing in the Bangladesh Premier League, "a scandal that has already brought down teammate and national hero Mohammad Ashraful" (AFP, 8/27).
