Event Notes: Barcelona Mayor Will Not Extend Metro Hours For Aug. 28 Supercopa

Barcelona Mayor Xavier Trias "is opposed to Madrid's Metro extending its hours of service on Aug. 28 for the Barcelona-Real Madrid Supercopa at Camp Nou Stadium." The game will start at 11pm local time and "will not end until 1am, an hour after the Metro closes." Trias has "already requested that La Liga move the game to an earlier hour." Trias called the chosen time for the game "insane" (EP, 8/15). ... The Int'l Paralympic Committee has announced that the 2013 IPC Powerlifting Asian Open Championships will take place from Nov. 3-7 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The event will be held at Kuala Lumpur's Titiwangsa Stadium and is expected to draw nearly 150 athletes from 20 countries. The Asian Paralympic Committee and Malaysian Powerlifting Para-Association will host the competition (IPC). ... Abu Dhabi's Yas Marina will host the city's "first live professional boxing competition" on Oct. 17. Among the competitors is "expected to be Danny Williams, the former British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion" (THE NATIONAL, 8/15). ... Vietnam will host the 7th World Shuttlecock Championship from Sept. 2-5 in the southern Dong Thap province. The tournament, organized by the Vietnam Sports Administration and the Dong Thap Culture, Sports & Tourism Department, is "expected to welcome at least 112 players of 13 teams from Austria, China, India, Italy, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Chinese Hong Kong, Chinese Macao and Chinese Taipei, Singapore and Vietnam" (XINHUA, 8/15).
