Event Notes: Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Moves Sept. 7 Fight Against Brian Vera To Sept. 28

Three weeks before a bout against Brian Vera scheduled for Sept. 7, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. tweeted that their fight will be "postponed to Sept. 28 at the newly renamed StubHub Center outside L.A., which was formerly known as the Home Depot Center." The postponement is "due to a cut Chavez Jr. suffered above his eye while sparring" (LA AFICION, 8/13). ... The Int'l Paralympic Committee (IPC) announced on Wednesday that Torino, Italy will host the 2013 IPC Ice Sledge Hockey Paralympic Winter Games Qualification Tournament from Oct. 20-26. It will be the sport's largest event prior to the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games, as it will give the Great Britain, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea and Sweden ice sledge hockey teams a chance to compete in Sochi (IPC). ... The Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) has extended the Dubai Sports World (DSW) event until Aug. 28, adding another week to use the facilities of the largest indoor sporting event in the region. The event has seen an "unprecedented number of participants and has been a major attraction for athletes of all skill levels during the hot summer months" (GULF NEWS, 8/14).
