Six weeks after his introduction as managing director of Handball Bundesliga (HBL) club HSV Hamburg, FRANK ROST "was fired by the club." Following several disputes with the former football Bundesliga goaltender, HSV Hamburg President MATTHIAS RUDOLPH made it clear that "a further continuation of the collaboration with Rost won't happen." Rudolph: "His behavior is arrogant. He told me yesterday that he will resign from his position and I should place him on administrative leave. But why should I put him on administrative leave? He only wants money" (BILD, 8/13). ... Liga MX side Pumas UNAM has hired Athletic VP MARIO TREJO, a former Pumas player, to replace ALBERTO GARCÍA ASPE, who was "removed from his position earlier in the week" (LA AFICION, 8/12). ... Former rugby player ELISEO BRANCA has been hired as coach of the Paraguayan national rugby team (OLE, 8/13). ... MotoGP rider Manager PHIL BAKER "has been appointed as the FIM's new Commercial Director." Baker will take up his post on Sept. 2. and "will be in charge of the development and implementation of the FIM's business strategy to maximise revenues through sale of Sponsorship and Media Rights worldwide" (FIM).

A BREED APART: Former Breeders' Cup Senior VP of Sales CARTER CARNEGIE has been appointed int'l exec for Great British Racing Int'l, "an entity established to attract new foreign investment in the sport." He began his duties Aug. 12. Carnegie will be responsible for the "development and implementation of a strategic plan to attract new investment in British racing, primarily in bloodstock but also broader commercial investment." GBRI is funded by Great British Racing, the British Horseracing Authority and the Horserace Betting Levy Board (BLOOD HORSE, 8/12). ... JMI has appointed CHRIS LONG to the position of VP of client services int'l. Reporting to President Int'l DAVID WEBB, Long brings over 15 years' experience in brand marketing, sports sponsorship, events and hospitality to JMI. Long joins JMI from RBS, where he oversaw both the RBS and NatWest brands as head of sponsorship in the U.K. retail division. His previous experience includes group sponsorship manager leading the RBS global golf program and sponsorship marketing at IMG Consulting (JMI). ... J.League division 1 Omiya Ardija President SHIGERU SUZUKI named Technical Dir and former Japan national team assistant TSUTOMU OGURA as the club's new manager. Omiya, "despite being fourth in J1 only six points off the pace," sacked coach ZDENKO VERDENIK on Sunday. Suzuki said that Verdenik "had clashed with the coaching staff and lost the players in the dressing room." Ardija "will be Ogura's first managing job" (KYODO, 8/13).
