British Olympic Bronze Medalist BETH TWEDDLE on Tuesday "confirmed her retirement from gymnastics with immediate effect." IMPACT OF BALE RUMORS: EPL Tottenham's GARETH BALE, who is currently the subject of rumors he will leave the club to sign with Real Madrid, "has received a death threat made by a fan" as a consequence of his possible signing with Real Madrid. Someone "made an anonymous call to Tottenham's practice facilities making a death threat directed at Bale." Bale was not in the building, but Tottenham "has taken urgent measures and increased the security around the team" (AS, 8/6). An image of Bale wearing a Tottenham shirt in a giant ad in N.Y.'s Times Square as part of a promotion for U.S. channel NBC, which owns the U.S. rights to the Premier League, "no longer exists." It was replaced by a poster featuring the word "Soccer" to advertise NBC's broadcasting deal (MARCA, 8/6). Gareth Bale has been removed from Tottenham's official Twitter account page in a move that "will only intensify speculation over his future" (London INDEPENDENT, 8/6).

On this week’s pod, SBJ’s Austin Karp has two Big Get interviews. The first is with TNT’s Stan Van Gundy as he breaks down the NBA Playoffs from the booth. Later in the show, we hear from ESPN’s VP of Programming and Acquisitions Tim Reed as the NFL Draft gets set to kick off on Thursday night in Motown.
