Eurosport Gains Distribution On Mediaset Premium Package In Italy

Mediaset and Eurosport Group "have signed an agreement for the distribution of Eurosport and Eurosport 2 within the Mediaset Premium pay-TV pack in Italy," according to Julian Clover of BROADBAND TV NEWS. The Italian language feed "will include coverage of cycling tours, winter sports, motorsports, athletics and swimming." Subscribers "will also be able to see team sports such as basketball, handball, hockey and new emerging sports" (BROADBAND TV NEWS, 8/5). RAPID TV NEWS reported Eurosport and Eurosport 2 will be available in standard definition "without any added costs" in the Mediaset Premium offer this fall. The service "is designed to complement and not cannibalise Mediaset's other sports bouquets, especially football." The Mediaset Premium pack "offers all matches of the main European Football Championships" live beginning Aug. 17. These include Premier League and English FA Cup football, La Liga from Spain and the French Ligue 1 (RAPID TV NEWS, 8/5).
