Former League Championship Leeds United CEO SHAUN HARVEY "has been appointed the new CEO of the Football League." Harvey takes over in a new role following Chair GREG CLARKE "downsizing his executive chairmanship to a non-executive position." Harvey, who worked alongside former Leeds President KEN BATES throughout his time at Elland Road, "stepped down at Leeds following a boardroom shake-up by new club owners GHK Capital, who also removed Bates as president." He will take over the role Oct. 1 (London DAILY MAIL, 7/29). ... EPL side Cardiff City announced Club Dir MEHMET DALMAN has been appointed chairman. Previous Chair SIMON LIM will continue in his role as CEO at the club (Cardiff City). ... The Int'l Cycling Union (UCI) announced former sprint cyclist ERIK ZABEL has resigned from the professional cycling council. He expressed his "deep regret for having lied for so long about taking performance enhancing substances" (UCI). ... The Spanish national basketball team has hired assistant coach JAUME PONSARNAU to join the staff of coach JUAN ANTONIO ORENGA. Ponsarnau said, "After a season of accidents, ending the year this way is incredible. This is a great opportunity to learn and help the team and it gives me great excitement." Ponsarnau replaces CHUS MATEO (Spanish Basketball Federation).
