German Handball Federation Withdraws Bid To Host '19 World Men's Handball Championships
The German Handball Federation (DHB) "has withdrawn its bid to host the 2019 World Men's Handball Championships," according to SPORT BILD. DHB President Ulrich Strombach "was taken by surprise by the plans of his designated successor Bernhard Bauer and future VP Bob Hanning." German handball "is threatened with an internal scandal just two months ahead of its presidential elections." Strombach said, "We have unanimously decided to write to the Int'l Handball Federation and inform it that the submitted bid was not valid because it wasn't authorized by the DHB board. It had been portrayed that the DHB has submitted a bid to host the 2019 men's world championships but this isn't the case and it has to be clarified" (SPORT BILD, 7/8).
