Tartan Design To Mark Scotland Hosting Of Ryder Cup In September 2014

A specially commissioned tartan "has been designed to mark the hosting of next year’s Ryder Cup in Scotland," according to Paul Ward of the SCOTSMAN. The golf tournament between Europe and the U.S. "will be held at Gleneagles, Perthshire," in Sept. '14. The tartan "was made by Lochcarron of Scotland and has four shades of blue, inspired by the Scottish landscape." The tartan "will be made into kilts, scarves and ties for sale to fans and they are likely to be worn by players before the tournament." About 250,000 spectators "are expected to descend on the Perthshire area for the event." The contract for the tartan "is the first to be awarded by Ryder Cup Europe since its procurement process for the 2014 event began" (SCOTSMAN, 7/1).
