Event Notes: Malaysian Government To Fund $2.5M Of $2.8M Kuala Lumpur Games Cost
It will cost MYR 9M ($2.8M) to organize the 16th edition of the Kuala Lumpur Sukma (Malaysia Games) from June 28-July 7 -- "and the government will fork out" MYR 8M ($2.5M). That's because only MYR 1M ($300,000) was "raised in sponsorship from the private sector" (THE STAR, 6/20). ... Myanmar will host an int'l Sepaktakraw (kick volleyball) tournament including five Southeast Asian countries at Wunna Theikhti Stadium in Myanmar's Nay Pyi Taw. The tournament, to be held from July 3-7, has also attracted "strong competitors from Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore" (XINHUA, 6/20). ... Dubai Sports World, the Middle East's "largest indoor summer sports event," will return for its third year at the Shaikh Saeed Halls at the Dubai World Trade Center starting Friday. The two-month long event "aims to be the ultimate summer sports venue, featuring a host of activities" including football, basketball, rugby, tennis, volleyball, futsal, table tennis, cricket, fitness training, running and skateboarding, plus summer camps for children (GULF NEWS, 6/20).
