Real Madrid's Renovations To The Santiago Bernabéu Expected To Yield $160M Per Year

Real Madrid President Florentino Pérez "does not only want to turn the Santiago Bernabéu into an architectural landmark, he also wants it to be the club's main source of income," according to Pablo Polo of MARCA. Following the stadium's renovation, "the stadium will be stunning on the outside and pure business on the inside." Real expects to earn an additional €120M ($160M) per year "by squeezing the most out of the new and improved Bernabéu." Real Madrid calculates €60M ($80M) from the leasing areas of the stadium and a "similar amount in other types of business activity." N.Y.'s Madison Square Garden "has become the act to follow for Real Madrid in its mission to get the most out of its stadium" (MARCA, 6/14).
