Spanish Second Division Club Guadalajara Faces Relegation For Irregular Share Issues

The Spanish Football League (LFP) has sanctioned Spanish second division club Guadalajara with relegation to the third division -- second division B -- for irregularities in the process of issuing shares over the past year, according to the EFE. The LFP opened an investigation into Guadalajara for possible irregularities while also charging Guadalajara President Germán Retuerta with "fraud, misappropriation and unfair administration" (EFE, 6/4). The EFE also reported Retuerta has announced that the club will appeal the administrative relegation. Retuerta said, "If the LFP wants war, it will have it, via administrative, judicial and, above all, social channels." Retuerta: "We suffer an attack every time they talk" (EFE, 6/4). FOOTBALL ESPAÑA reported Guadalajara, which apparently raised €2.9M ($3.8M) in its actions last summer, "can appeal the decision, but as things stand, Racing Santander, Real Murcia and Huesca are all given a second opportunity to avoid relegation from the Segunda Division" (FOOTBALL ESPAÑA, 6/4).
