Football Notes: Argentine Clubs Unión, Colón Will Play Behind Closed Doors
Argentine Primera División rivals Unión and Colón will play Sunday at 11:10am in Santa Fe behind closed doors, according to information released Monday by the secretary for security coordination of athletic competitions. The organization said, "The decision is based on reasons regarding the security of the event participants and the public in general. It was made after analyzing in detail the facts regarding both teams' fans, information received and various meetings with police and government officials, as well as athletic directors. Violent events in which both teams have been involved were also taken into account" (OLE, 5/27). ... Nine fans "have been arrested for violence following the Italian Cup final, which included clashes near the Colosseum, a window being broken on Roma's bus and an attack on a TV crew" (AP, 5/27).
