League Notes: German Football League To Open Game Ball Tender Process

The German Football League (DFL) "will shortly open the tender process for an official game ball rights package starting with the '14-15 season." The official game ball rights package "will run for four years through the end of the '17-18 season and includes all league games of the 1st and 2nd Bundesliga as well as all relegation games." The DFL's current game ball contract with adidas, which started in '09, has brought about €25M ($32.5M) into the coffers of the 36 professional clubs (SID, 5/13). ... South Korea’s governing body of amateur boxing "has been reinstated as a member federation" of the Int'l Amateur Boxing Association (KOREA HERALD, 5/13). ... Even as the controversy over Laxman Sivaramakrishnan’s appointment to the ICC Cricket Committee raged on, the Board of Control for Cricket in India "received support from its Asian allies Sri Lanka and Pakistan who claimed allegations of the Indian Cricket Board forcing a re-vote were baseless" (PTI, 5/13). ... The Mumbai Cricket Association "is likely to deliberate on the proposal received from a couple of its affiliated units to name the commentators’ box at the Wankhede stadium after late Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray" (PTI, 5/13).
