Gold Medal-winning discuss thrower ROBERT HARTING, newly retired biathlon athlete MAGDALENA NEUNER and the Gold Medal-winning German eight man rowing crew have won the Athlete of the Year Award in the categories best male athlete, best female athlete and best team, respectively (BILD, 12/16). ... British F1 driver MAX CHILTON will substitute Frenchman CHARLES PIC as the official pilot of the Marussia team. Marussia President NIKOLAI FOMENKO said, "Our third pilot Max Chilton will replace Charles Pic next season" (MARCA, 12/17). ... South Korean pitcher LIM CHANG-YONG has signed with the MLB Chicago Cubs. Lim "is scheduled to return to South Korea later Monday to announce the signing." He "is expected to disclose other details of the contract then" (YONHAP, 12/17). .. ROGER FEDERER "was named Swiss male athlete of the years at the 2012 Credit Suisse Sports Awards on Sunday in Zurich."
