Canal+, BeIN Sport Expected To Go Head-To-Head For EPL Rights In France

The Premier League has put the media rights to the EPL in France up for bidding, according to Etienne Moatti of L'EQUIPE. The league contacted the broadcasters on Monday and made them aware that they had until Jan. 22 to send their bids for the rights to the EPL over the next three seasons. Currently, broadcaster Canal+ pays €24M ($31M) annually for the rights to the EPL. The contract "is bar far the largest" for a foreign league in France. If Canal+ wants to retain the rights, "it will have to count on competition from beIN Sport, which is now its biggest rival in the market of sports rights" (L'EQUIPE, 12/10).
