Canal+ Puts Next Three Champions League Finals Up For Bidding
French pay-TV broadcaster Canal+ has put the right for the next three Champions League finals up for sale, according to Etienne Moatti of L'EQUIPE. The rights can only be bought by free-to-air TV channels as the Champions League final is "an event of major importance" that by law has to air on a free channel. Canal+ is thus "forced to put the finals up for bidding." However, the pay-TV broadcaster will be allowed to sell the broadcast rights to other broadcasters. Interested bidders will have to put in their offers by Dec. 18 (L'EQUIPE, 11/26).
