Real Madrid Unveiled Four Projects The Club Has On Table For Stadium Remodeling

Real Madrid President Florentino Pérez "unveiled the four projects" that the club has on the table for the remodeling of the Santiago Bernabéu stadium, according to EUROPA PRESS. During the general assembly meeting, Pérez assured that the objective of the project is for the stadium to become "a global architectural icon." Pérez said, "All four of them are ambitious projects, spectacular, looking for an architectural improvement and, if possible, to expand the seating capacity. We want our stadium to be one of the most-emblematic buildings in Madrid and in the world" (EUROPA PRESS, 9/30). In Madrid, Jorge Sanz reported that the four "prestigious architectural entities" competing for the contract are Lamela-Populous, Moneo-Herzog & De Meuron, Norman Foster-Rafael de Lahoz and GMT Architekten-L35-Ribas (MARCA, 9/30). REUTERS' Iain Rogers reported that in the same general assembly meeting, Pérez "won the backing of members for statute changes" that will make it harder for outsiders to seize control of the club. The changes will mean presidential candidates will "have to have been club members for at least 20 years," up from 10 years. They will also have to personally provide a guarantee worth 15% of the club's budget, around €75M ($96.5M), rather than "relying on any third party as has sometimes happened in the past" (REUTERS, 9/30).
