Premier League Will Reject Platini's Proposal For A Winter World Cup In Qatar

The Premier League will "oppose any attempt" to hold the 2022 Qatar World Cup during the winter months, according to Matt Lawton of the London DAILY MAIL. UEFA President Michel Platini insisted that the tournament should be held between "Nov. 20 and Dec. 20" to avoid the "scorching summer temperatures" in Qatar. In Monaco, Platini also said that he would vote for Qatar again and "repeated his desire to see Euro 2020 held across 13 nations with the semi-finals and the final held in one country." However, a Premier League spokesperson said, "Our view is that such a proposal is unworkable and unacceptable to domestic European football" (DAILY MAIL, 8/31).

THE VOTES ARE IN: GAZETAESPORTIVA.net reported that the official FIFA 2014 World Cup ball will be called "Brazuca." The online poll, which lasted three weeks, had more than one million votes. Brazuca received 77.8% of all the votes followed by Bossa Nova with 14.6% and Carnavalesca with 7.6% (GAZETAESPORTIVA.net , 9/2).
