Bollywood filmmaker SANJAY LEELA BHANSALI is working on a movie about Indian boxer and mother-of-two MARY KOM, whose London Games Bronze Medal "cemented her status as a national hero." Bhansali said Tuesday that he was "moved by the story of Kom," a poor farmer's daughter from the remote northeast of India who overcame the odds to become a five-time world champion and Olympic Medalist (AFP, 8/29). ... A "valuable bicycle" belonging to Olympic Gold Medalist PHILIP HINDES has been stolen from his house. Police confirmed that Hindes used the bike for training, but it is not the bike on which he won the Gold (MANCHESTER EVENING NEWS, 8/29). ... New Zealand Bowling Coach DAMIEN WRIGHT announced that "he will quit after the World Twenty20 tournament in Sri Lanka next month." Wright's resignation comes four months after former Head Coach JOHN WRIGHT rejected an offer to extend his contract (AFP, 8/29).
