Football Notes: Conte's 10-Month Ban Upheld
Serie A Juventus coach Antonio Conte's 10-month ban for failing to report suspicions of match-fixing at a previous club was upheld by Italy's football federation. Conte was found guilty of "not informing the authorities of possible corruption" in two games involving his former team Siena during the '11-12 season (AFP, 8/22). ... The Bulgarian Football Union said that Minyor Pernik was handed a three-match stadium ban for the club's fans "following crowd trouble during their home league game" against Lokomotiv Sofia over the weekend. Angry Minyor fans "physically assaulted" Lokomotiv CEO Georgi Markov during Saturday's draw (REUTERS, 8/22).
