Media Notes: London Games Failed To Boost U.K. Newspaper Market

Scottish publishing company Johnston Press "has said that the Olympics failed to provide the regional newspaper market with an advertising uplift, with revenues down almost 15%" in the period including the London Games. Johnston, the second largest publisher of regional newspapers in the U.K., with almost 250 titles, said that "total advertising revenues were down 14.7% year-on-year in the six weeks since June 30 (London GUARDIAN, 8/21). ... Outdoor advertising "is set to be the biggest advertising winner of the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics, with spending on media including billboards, posters, taxis, buses and the London Underground up more than 30% year on year in the period including the London 2012 Games" (GUARDIAN, 8/21).

LET'S GO RACING: NASCAR and Fox Deportes said that they "are teaming up to provide Spanish-language coverage of 15 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races as well as daily news segments, weekly updates and original programs beginning next year." Fox Deportes will broadcast six of the races live, including the season-opening Daytona 500 on Feb. 24 (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 8/21).
