TV Channels Sky And ARD Attain Strong Ratings For Their German Cup Coverage

The first round of the German Cup competition started on Saturday with 12 games and "provided pay-TV channel Sky Deutschland with high ratings," according to Manuel Nunez Sanchez of QUOTENMETER.de. Nine of the 12 games kicked off at 3:30pm CEST and were watched by 380,000 Sky subscribers or a "strong" 3.9% share. In the marketing relevant target age group 14-49, the numbers were "only slightly lower" with 120,000 viewers or 3.6%. German public broadcasters ARD and ZDF "joined the German Cup coverage later in the day with evening highlight and summary shows of the afternoon games." ARD's "Sportschau" attracted 2.79 million viewers or a 20.7% share between 6-8pm. In the target age group, the show was watched by 700,000 viewers or 16%. ZDF's "Das aktuelle Sportstudio," which started at 11pm, was watched by 1.51 million viewers or 10.3% overall, and 470,000 viewers or 7.3% in the target age group (QUOTENMETER.de, 8/19).
