Dubai Will Host Independence Day Tournaments

To commemorate the Independence Day of India and Pakistan, Dubai "will stage two traditional cricket tournaments" that have been held for the last 24 years, according to K.R. Nayar of GULF NEWS. The Pakistan Independence Day tournament will be held on the second day of Eid at the Seven Seas Ground. The Indian Independence Day event "will be held on either Sept. 6 or 13 due to the Ramadan holidays." With the backing of cricket fan and businessman Freddy Sidhwa, UAE senior umpire Tariq Butt has been "staging the events since their inception." Golden Line company's Pakistan businessman Ateef Waheed is sponsoring the Pakistan Independence Day tournament, while City Diamonds and Al Wahda Contracting's Indian businessman Deepak Arora is supporting the Indian Independence Day event (GULF NEWS, 8/14).
