Greece Submits Application To Host F1 Race At The Harbor Of Piraeus

The bankrupt country of Greece has applied for acceptance into the F1 racing calendar, which it "hopes will create jobs and promote its tourism industry," according to HEUTE.at. Plans call for "a street course at the harbor of Piraeus," which is located about 17km outside of Greece's capital Athens. The track will be 5.2km long, consisting of 13-left and 12-right turns, with a capacity of 130,000. Greece Parliament Member Kostas Tzavaras said, "The priority of this government has to be the creation of instruments, which will help the country's development. In critical times like these, every idea, which will promote Greece and attract international attention, is welcome and deserves our support." A formal application has been submitted, and F1 CEO Bernie Ecclestone has been informed about the proposed race (HEUTE.at, 8/10).
