UAE Club Al Wasl Deny Reports Maradona Is To Be Compensated $17M

Sources from UAE Football League club Al Wasl have "denied claims in the Argentine press" that DIEGO MARADONA is due $17M in compensation from the club, according to Ashley Hammond of GULF NEWS. After he was sacked from his coach position June 10, Maradona told the Argentine press that "he remains coach until the end of his contract next season, unless he receives $17M in compensation" from his former employers. A club source told the Arabic press: "A formal contract between club and coach is with the UAE Football Association. It stipulates that if his contract is terminated in the second year of his contract he will receive compensation of two months salary, at Dh1.6M ($440,000) only." Meanwhile, Maradona has been "linked to a sensational managerial return" to his former club Boca Juniors. Boca Juniors VP JUAN CARLOS CRESPI said, "Why couldn't he be coach of Boca?" (GULF NEWS, 7/16).
