Al Wasl of the UAE Football League has sacked DIEGO MARADONA as their "chief coach along with his support staff." The new board made its decision late on Tuesday. A club spokesperson said, "The new board of Al Wasl met today and decided to discontinue the services of Maradona for the new season of 2012-13. A decision on his replacement will be taken later." The Argentine legend will only have completed one year of the two-year contract he had signed last year. The spokesperson added, "There are of course exit clauses for both parties concerned" (GULF NEWS, 7/10).

MANAGERS: The Paraguayan Football Association (APF) has named Uruguayan GERARDO PELUSSO as head coach of the national team. Pelusso replaces FRANCISCO ARCE, "who was sacked after his team plummeted" to one place from bottom of the South American Group in the 2014 World Cup Qualifications. The APF said, "We're convinced this was the best choice and that we can go out to fight for our qualification. He'll decide who he works with, he's very enthusiastic with this opportunity and we in being able to count on him" (REUTERS, 7/10). ... The Polish Football Federation has appointed Ruch Chorzow coach WALDEMAR FORNALIK as the national team coach, replacing FRANCISZEK SMUDA. Smuda's contract was not extended beyond Euro 2012 after the Polish national team collected just two points and failed to progress from Group A. Fornalik will direct the national team through the end of the 2014 World Cup. Last year, he guided Ruch Chorzow to second place in the Polish First Division (UEFA).
