FIFA Threatens To Suspend Oman From 2014 World Cup Qualifying
Oman could be suspended from qualifying for the 2014 World Cup and other int'l competitions by FIFA if a recent court ruling is enforced, according to AL BAWABA. FIFA President Sepp Blatter wrote a letter to Oman's Ministry of Sports Affairs "warning over the ramifications of breaching rules by clubs taking football disputes to the courts." FIFA has warned Oman faces "immediate and indefinite suspension" if the court verdict is implemented. Oman is due to play their next World Cup qualifier in October against Jordan. Oman football clubs Oman, Seeb and Muscat "sought a ruling to invalidate the results" of the Oman Football Association elections held last year. The court has ordered the ministry to declare the invalidity of the resolution of the OFA general assembly. FIFA, however, "has reiterated the elections were held legally, in the presence of its observers" (AL BAWABA, 7/8).
