David Beckham Suspended One Game For Match Behavior

Major League Soccer L.A. Galaxy forward David Beckham has been suspended one game and fined an undisclosed amount by the MLS Disciplinary Committee for his “confrontational and provocative behavior” during and after the team’s 4-3 loss at San Jose, Calif. on Saturday, according to Andrew Owens of the L.A. TIMES. Galaxy coach Bruce Arena was also fined an undisclosed amount by the Disciplinary Committee "for his comments regarding the officiating" following the loss (L.A. TIMES, 7/5). The BBC noted that the former England captain was "involved in a scuffle on the pitch." Beckham was "angry at perceived time-wasting" and kicked the ball at Sam Cronin while the San Jose player was on the ground. After being booked, Beckham then argued with opponents after the final whistle (BBC, 7/6).
