Brazil Federal Government Investing $576M In Security

The 12 host cities for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil will receive investments of R$1.17B ($576M) from the federal government for the "installation of command and control centers," according to PORTAL 2014. This investment in security will make it possible to "see the city from a large room with dozens of HD monitors," who receive the images of hundreds of cameras scattered around the streets of various neighborhoods. Brazilian Special Security Secretary for Large Events Valdinho Jacinto Caetano said that he hopes to "conclude the first centers in time" for the 2013 Confederations Cup (PORTAL2014.org.br, 7/4).
