EPL And Barclays Close To Sponsorship Extension
Embattled Barclays Bank is set to sign "a bumper deal" to retain its title sponsorship of the Premier League, according to John Reynolds of MARKETING MAGAZINE. An announcement on the more than £35M ($55M)-a-year-deal is expected in the coming weeks. Barclays has been the title sponsor of the league since '04. EPL and Barclays have been negotiating over the past month and one source said, "It is a done deal." Its previous three-year agreement was understood to be valued at around £30M ($47M) per year. A source close to the negotiations said that the new deal was "set to be above £35M ($55M)." It will run from the start of the '13 season through to the end of the '15 season and will include exclusive worldwide marketing rights, U.K. and int'l TV program accreditation, extensive advertising packages, match-day tickets and hospitality (MARKETINGMAGAZINE.co.uk, 7/3).
