YouView's Launch Bringing New Viewing Technology To London Games
YouView, the "long delayed internet TV service being backed by several of the U.K.’s largest broadcasters and broadband providers," will be revealed next week ahead of the Olympic Games, according to Daniel Thomas of the FINANCIAL TIMES. Boxes are "not expected to be widely available until later this year" as the main suppliers continue with testing. Backers of the venture include BBC, ITV, Channel 4, TalkTalk and BT, which all "agreed to reveal the details for the service next week" following the first phase of testing. The service allows users "to go backward instantly to watch programmes as much as a week old, as well as aggregate movies and other pay-per-view content on one box for the first time." YouView was originally intended to launch in '10 (FINANCIAL TIMES, 6/27).
