Despite Rumors, Cambodia's Olympic Stadium Will Resist Demolition
Canadia Bank's Overseas Cambodian Investment Corp. official said that despite rumors Phnom Penh's "iconic Olympic Stadium would not be lost to the city's rapid development," according to Ponlok & Riley of the PHNOM PENH POST. The official was responding to "questions about an online campaign launched in opposition" of the rumored construction plan. OCIC site engineer Meng Chamroeun said his company "would not cause any damage to Cambodian sporting heritage." Meng said the OCIC was interested only in enhancing the "beauty of the stadium," but that he could not promise that other companies would not try to develop the site in the future. The National Olympic Committee of Cambodia building will also house a state-of-the-art Sports Medicine and Science Centre as well as offices for the Paralympics Committee (PHNOM PENH POST, 6/19).
