Alberto Contador Will Continue Riding With Saxo Bank As Lead Sponsor
Spanish cyclist Alberto Contador will rejoin the Saxo Bank team once his suspension for doping ends on Aug. 5, 2013, according to L’EQUIPE. The deal is for three years. Saxo Bank Sporting Dir Bjarne Riis said, “There have been a lot of rumors around Alberto Contador about his future over the last months. But our sponsors, the team and Alberto had the same desire to continue together.” Contador added: “My first priority has always been to rejoin the team and to work with Riis and the rest of the group. The support I received from them while I was going through a very difficult time was extraordinary” (L’EQUIPE, 6/8). MARCA's Josu Garai noted that “confidence in the cyclist from Pinto is reinforced with this long term renewal” (MARCA, 6/8).
