Investigators Reviewing Footage From Masai Ujiri Altercation

Alameda County (Calif.) Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Sgt. Ray Kelly on Friday said that investigators are "reviewing footage from body cameras worn" by the sheriff's deputy who was allegedly shoved and hit in the face by Raptors President of Basketball Operations Masai Ujiri after NBA Finals Game 6 at Oracle Arena. Investigators are also reviewing footage from "other officers, the stadium's surveillance video and cellphone video." Kelly said that a report "will be forwarded to prosecutors." The Raptors said that the team is also "looking into the altercation and cooperating with authorities." NBA Exec VP/Communications Mike Bass said that the league also was "cooperating with authorities" (AP, 6/15). Kelly said that security at Oracle Arena for the game "had been heightened because it was the Warriors' last game" at the venue. Kelly: "We were told by the NBA and security officials to strictly enforce the credential policy" (NYTIMES.com, 6/14).

Warriors season-ticket holder Greg Wiener said he was about "three inches away" from the deputy during the incident, and added the police's account of the altercation is "not entirely true." Wiener said, "(Ujiri) had (his credential) in his hand and his hand was down by his side. It looked like he was trying to get it up." Wiener said he "didn't see" Ujiri strike the deputy in the face and added the deputy "initiated the contact" with Ujiri (USATODAY.com, 6/14).
