Golf Channel Premieres Three-Part Arnold Palmer Biopic Tonight
Golf Channel’s three-part documentary tribute to golfer Arnold Palmer, titled "Arnie," premieres tonight at 10:00pm ET. The series includes "100 interviews and conversations with a still sharp Palmer over the past year" and "examines what was Palmer’s hardly initial embrace" of late IMG Founder Mark McCormack. Palmer's business enterprises and charitable legacy, "particularly the hospitals named for his late wife, Winnie, are also explored" (MULTICHANNEL.com, 4/11).
The film is "a classically dutiful documentary," but expanding Palmer’s history to three installments "feels like a bit of largesse predicated more on availability than need" (VARIETY.com, 4/11). "Arnie" is an "upbeat yarn and leaves us with an ode that would fit nicely on Palmer’s website" (N.Y. TIMES, 4/13). The Palmer biopic is "so good you need not be a golf fan to enjoy it thoroughly," although some viewers "might dismiss part 1" (CABLEFAX DAILY, 4/11).
