Penn State Makes Franklin Big Ten's Second-Highest Paid Football Coach

Penn State yesterday introduced Vanderbilt football coach James Franklin as its new coach. Franklin, including retention bonuses, is guaranteed to make $4.3M the first season of his contract, with that amount "increasing by $100,000 every year" until it jumps to $5.25M "if he stays at Penn State through Dec. 31, 2019." The deal makes Franklin the second-highest paid Big Ten football coach behind Ohio State's Urban Meyer (TRIBLIVE.com, 1/11).
