Piazza Inducted Into Mets' HOF Prior To Today's Game
Former MLBer Mike Piazza was inducted into the Mets' HOF today prior to the start of the team's game against the Brewers. The Mets were "selling standing-room tickets, a sign that there will be a big crowd to see a man who practically doubled the Mets' attendance" during his first year in '98 (NEWSDAY, 9/29). Newsday's Marc Carig wrote, "Mets fans getting a reminder of why they still care. These kinds of days are good for baseball" (TWITTER.com, 9/29).
Meanwhile, retiring Yankees P Mariano Rivera's "final goodbye ceremony" was today at Minute Maid Park, where the team is playing the Astros in its last game of the season. Former MLBer Roger Clemens was "scheduled to take part" in the proceedings (NYTIMES.com, 9/24).
