Hingis Leads '13 Int'l Tennis HOF Inductees During Saturday Ceremony
The Int'l Tennis HOF inducted Martina Hingis, Cliff Drysdale, Charlie Pasarell and Ion Tiriac before a "large but nowhere-near-capacity crowd" at Newport Casino in Newport, R.I., yesterday. Drysdale has been the "voice of tennis for ESPN since its inception in 1979," while Pasarell was the "longtime director of the wildly popular two-week tournament" at Indian Wells, Calif. Tiriac was a longtime Romanian "coach, promoter and entrepreneur" (PROVIDENCE JOURNAL, 7/14).
Drysdale, Pasarell and Tiriac comprise "three of the most important movers and shakers in tennis." All three men "helped shape the game we know today" (TENNIS.com, 7/12).
