Saturday Night Laughs: SNL Takes On Jason Collins Announcement
The opening skit of NBC’s “SNL” parodied Fox News’ “Fox & Friends” and Collins’ announcement of his homosexuality. Cast member Taran Killam as co-host Steve Doocy said, “I will say though, I am surprised that the first gay athlete was in basketball. I would’ve thought it would’ve been hockey, you know, because it's so close to figure skating.” Vanessa Bayer as co-host Gretchen Carlson added, “I always thought it would be the guy in football who hikes the ball, I mean, he’s already in that position.” Bobby Moynihan playing co-host Brian Kilmeade: “I thought it would be a WNBA player, I mean, a lot of those guys look like women already.” Carlson: “Brian, those are women.” Kilmeade: “Oh come on now, that’s not true.” Carlson: “That’s why it’s called the WNBA. What do you think the W stood for?” Kilmeade: “I don’t know, worse?” (“SNL,” NBC, 5/4).
