NBC's Al Michaels was arrested and charged with misdemeanor DUI in Southern California on Friday night, Santa Monica police said. Michaels was "extremely cooperative and was released on his own recognizance" yesterday morning (CNN.com, 4/21).

The NBA is "considering the idea of splitting the 2015 All-Star weekend between the Knicks and the Nets," with the idea of dividing its events "between the two sites" (AP, 4/19).

Nets F Jerry Stackhouse yesterday before the Bulls-Nets game gave a "stirring, even soulful rendition of 'The Star-Spangled Banner,' quickly recovering from a shaky start to hit every note, even the high ones, in a performance that elicited waves of cheers from an already eager crowd" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 4/21).

UFC on Fox 7 last night at HP Pavilion in San Jose "once again showed the strength of the emerging sport's appeal in the Bay Area -- drawing 13,306, raucous spectators" (SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS, 4/21).

Ball State Univ. officials yesterday "unveiled plans for a new ballpark complex for baseball and softball" as well as a "new capital fundraising campaign." Also announced was a "court sports practice facility" for man's and women's basketball and volleyball teams (Muncie STAR PRESS, 4/21).

The Rangers will host a blood drive before today's game versus the Mariners to "help the victims of the West, Texas fertilizer plant explosion." The team also is asking fans to "make donations in the form of cash and gift cards" today (DALLASNEWS.com, 4/20).

Boston Globe NFL beat writer Greg Bedard writes his final Sunday notes column today, with his move to SI set to commence "at the conclusion" of this week's NFL Draft. Bedard writes, "Thank you for reading with an open mind" (BOSTON GLOBE, 4/21).
