MLS Earthquakes Aim For Spring '14 Stadium Opening
MLS Earthquakes President Dave Kaval on Friday said that the team plans to "begin construction on their 18,000-seat stadium by Feb. 26." The privately financed, $60M stadium is "expected to open in spring 2014." Kaval: "We want to open for [the] beginning of next season. But it's almost too early to say." Kaval added that the venue's seating could expand to 25,000 if "ticket demand is strong and government officials allow for future growth." Milpitas, Calif.-based Devcon Construction was hired "as the general contractor" (SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS, 2/9).
